I have been collecting found photographs for as long as I can remember. It started with a fascination of cabinet cards and daguerreotypes, to wedding photos, to all kinds of snapshots from different time periods. The tactility of a photograph in my hand was a rewarding experience. After working on my series, Absence is the Constant, I started collecting and developing undeveloped rolls of film from anywhere I could find them; thrift stores, garage sales, antique stores, and flea markets.. I am intrigued by the inconsistency of the film. Time degrades it, and the longer it goes undeveloped the more likely the images will be unviewable. I get two things out of developing these strangers' memories. A sense of completing something unfinished, and an excitement for what kind of irregularities I might be able to find.
