The images in Spectral Shift are of light, made by light. To create them, mirrored sculptures bend and manipulate the sunlight and the refractions are captured on cyanotype-coated paper. The results are phantom traces of blue hues.

I think of the mirrored sculptures as portals. In its truest form, a mirror is meant to show only what’s in front of it. The image in a mirror cannot be fixed in time. But when a mirror is bent it begins to warp perception and space, taking on a kind of free-will as the light moves around it. It's impossible to predict the shapes that will be cast.

This exploration of uncertainty has captivated me as I try to hold onto something that is so fleeting. The documentation of light captures the feeling of searching for something just out of reach, like a memory you can’t quite conjure. Without using a camera, negative or object, I am recording a moment and allowing light to be the subject.
